WP1.2 Coordination Meeting July 12, 2021
Meeting Report WP1.2 ‘Modelica library for MPC’
Subject: WP1.2
Date: 12-07-2021
Location: Teams
Minutes taken by: Lieve Helsen (KU Leuven)
July 12
- Emulators
- BOPTEST workshop
- BOPTEST journal paper
- Forecast uncertainties
- Further issues
Reviewed by Filip, comments are being processed by Dave.
On hold (Filip).
1st version ready by December 2021 (Dave).
Unit test error (pull request) discussed, debugging in process, now paused, get back in August/September, Dave tries to solve it in the meantime (Tao & Dave).
Compilation of envelope OK using PyFMI, with HVAC able to compile but very slow simulation due to large number of events. Trying to reduce the number of events now (Iago & Javier). Suggestion Filip: diving deeper into the source code might be a solution as well (back-tracing to find when the event exactly happens). Setting the solver for simulation needs to be handled in BOPTEST – assign a solver to each emulator (one of the settings) (Dave).

Core team: Dave (on-line), Javier, Iago If possible shift the workshop to the afternoon (more comfortable for Dave) – Action Lieve Content
-
Cloud-based environment available (NREL), don’t need to install docker
-
BESTEST hydronic heat pump case will be used
-
Simple exercise during workshop (1 scenario)
-
Competition afterwards – follow-up exercise with the same building but different scenarios using their own controller
-
Add a more dynamic price profile to allow different controllers to differentiate
Authors have been contacted by Dave and outline can be found here.
Every author has reviewed and given comments. Final internal review is going on by Marina Sofos (original funder of BOPTEST). One final review will be done by Dave (including language).
Action Lieve: contact Laura to check the plan.
-
BOPTEST trials paper – to be discussed in September Expand on BOPTEST demonstration and use trials done within this WP. Community of users in acknowledgments or maybe as supplemental material (performance point linked to a user (voluntary))
-
Where have we seen BOPTEST popping up? Some BS2021 papers use BOPTEST
-
Follow-up project Dave is interested in continuing the BOPTEST work, looking for funding. Connection is clear with WP1.1: a separate project that combines WP1.1 and WP1.2? BOPTEST for districts in the future? Include uncertainties? Something similar to ASHRAE standard committees to maintain/update IBPSA Library and BOPTEST? Moving in the direction of multiple smaller projects, Dave checks with Michael. Umbrella is important, could be IBPSA, ASHRAE ... be part of a community.
-
Keep track of versions of BOPTEST and the relation to updates of emulators! Clear way of working needed. Stick to 1 version.
Next meeting: September 10, 5 PM-6.30 PM (CET)
