Switching from bubbles to modern layout leaves display names hidden

Steps to reproduce

1. Enable bubble layout
2. Go to any 2-person DM
3. Switch to modern layout

Outcome

What did you expect?

I should be able to see the display names of the senders for each message.

What happened instead?

Display names remain invisible until I switch away from the room and switch back.
