Cursed 21

This game was made in less than 48 hours at STLGameJam (UMSL, St. Louis) during the Global Game Jam 2019.

How To Play

The game is hosted online at https://cursed21.vercel.app/

To play locally, you need to have Node.js installed on your system. Then, from the project root, execute the following commands:-

npm install
npm start

Mechanics

The game is pretty straightforward. You start at the base of the mysterious island and your task is to collect & return all 21 cursed coins back to the chest at the very top floating island. To do this, you have to take advantage of the magical bubbles in the island which allow you to bubble walk through them to reach higher. Take note that you can only carry 7 coins at a time. You have to deposit the coins in the chest before you can carry more.

Standard arrow keys on your keyboard. Left, Right for movement Up for jump

Story

Keeping in sight the theme for this #GGJ2019, Cursed 21 is the story of a man who stole 21 pieces of cursed coins from an ancient chest in a mysterious island during his travels. However, as time passed by, he lost his human form and was turned into a beast as a punishment for stealing the coins. In his desperation, he threw the coins away and tried to go back home to his beloved. But his beloved didn't recognize him in his beast form.

He then decided to return to the mysterious island and collect the coins scattered all across it in the hope that putting them back in the chest would lift the curse.
