New user adding my 2c here: I expected the Help > About kiwix > Learn more about kiwix link to contain at least some information on where to get and how to add collections, and maybe some info on what the "Local kiwix server" button does. At the moment, new users just get sent back to the "advertisment" webpage which is probably where they downloaded the software from.

An explicit guide on how to generate a zim file for some small test website and add it would also be welcome.

I guess a key question here is whether the app should provide a page of information that doesn't require Internet access, or whether Help -> About should refer the user to an online page of info. At the very least this dialogue box could show a brief "Usage" section.

I suggest removing the mention about using Kiwix "in jail". I think it's rather odd to present the average user with this as if it were a primary use case. Even prisoners might not appreciate the reminder of their situation....

Another issue I noted is that Help -> About doesn't mention the Privacy Policy at all, which is pretty much de rigueur nowadays.

Agree on all counts. Question: whose role would it be to update that page? Should it be done through a PR?

I would like to treat this issue, but first we need to identify clearly what is unclear. If I look to the Kiwix Server dialog, to me it seems very clear what it does (but maybe this has been improved in the meantime)?

Regarding the new users, they are now immediatly sent to the online library, so it should be straight to download a content!

I'm not able to check right now, but from memory: yes, it seems like improvements have already been made. In particular, from my perspective the popup for starting a local server now contains enough information.

As for remaining (possible) improvements, I agree that mentioning/linking to a privacy policy or any other user/content policies could be a good idea. I think redirecting to the online library on first launch is a nice touch, thanks for the implementation. I will leave it up to your discretion if you want to make some other changes to the about page as @Jaifroid suggested.

@adigitoleo Great to have your feedback even if the issue is a bit old! With privacy policy, you mean what isnpublished at https://kiwix.org/en/privacy-policy/? So making a link to that page?
