Including custom property values in a repository REST API response enhances flexibility by allowing additional metadata or business-specific information to be returned alongside standard data. This reduces the need for extra API calls, improving efficiency and performance. To implement this effectively, best practices should be followed here, such as using namespaced keys here to prevent conflicts, ensuring proper validation and security, and maintaining backward compatibility. Additionally, providing options to filter or include custom properties selectively helps keep responses optimized, ensuring they remain lightweight while still delivering relevant information for various use cases. |

The repository object from the REST APIs such as
list-organization-repositories
should include custom property values just like the repository webhook event does.To get the value of a specific custom property from all 500 repositories in an organization it requires 505 requests instead of 5.
Even better would be GraphQL API support but this might be an easier first step that still gives 99% of the benefit. Literally.
