Currently when looking through a repository for specific commits, if the repository did not title their commits with a prefix of the "type" or otherwise include the "type" in the commit title or message, it can be extremely difficult to find all the particular types of commits one seeks to find.
With issues and pull requests, this dilemma is easily negated through the use of labels, types, and filters... but not all commits come in the form of an issue first, or even as a pull request, and so commit sorting by hand can be quite tedious and error prone.
I ask, can we please get a filter function for commits? Can we also allow some way of tagging/labeling commits that don't start off as an issue or a pull request? Wouldn't it be beneficial for all if the commit list included the labels and such that are already there (for the instances where the commit did indeed start off as an issue or pull request first) ?
I think this would be an amazing QoL feature update that would put github well above its competitors in ease of use and quality of life perks!
