How R.plurals.number_of_stars is defined is not covered in the tutorial.

One needs to add

    <plurals name="number_of_stars">
        <item quantity="one">%d star</item>
        <item quantity="other">%d stars</item>
    </plurals>

to res/values/strings.xml
