Hi, so I recently installed dualboot ubuntu hoping that it would increase my generation times with ComfyUI, but they are actually slower. Diving into this I'm seeing some strange things. I'm new to linux/ubuntu and am still learning, so I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can help me in the right direction. Running a Lenovo laptop with a 4070 nvidia GPU.
Comparing the info from the terminal/command and within ComfyUI using crystools I see these numbers
Ubuntu:
Total VRAM 7940MB Total RAM 31831MB
Python 3.12.3
Pytorch 2.6.0+cu124
on the browser ComfyUI open and nothing generating I have Ram 41% and Vram 26% usage according to Crystools
Generation times about 25 seconds for XL model
Windows:
Total VRAM 8188MB Total RAM 32508MB
Python 3.11.8
Pytorch 2.5.1+cu118
on the browser ComfyUI open and nothing generating I have Ram 29% and Vram 12% usage according to Crystools
Generation times about 15 seconds for XL model
Both using identical prompts/parameters.
I'm not sure if the generation speed is coming from a difference in Python/Pytorch versions? I find it odd that windows is saying I have more total VRAM/RAM than Ubunutu, also it's odd that when at an idle and not generating anything that Ubuntu is using more resources. On windows I'm using Chrome and Ubuntu is Firefox, not sure if that's part of it?
I'm really just trying to optimize generation times, if necessary I will stick to windows, but I assume with some work I can get Ubuntu slightly faster than Windows. I'm wondering if it's even worth the headache at this point though, lol.
If you read this all then thank you for your time and any info provided!
